Focus Timer Help

The Focus Timer enhances Bible reading by promoting concentration and engagement with Scripture. Users prepare by creating a quiet environment, then synchronize the timer with audio readings. It employs prompts and reminder prompts to refocus wandering minds, ultimately fostering deeper understanding and a more meaningful relationship with biblical texts over time.

How to Use the Focus Timer for the Bible Reading

The Focus Timer is designed to help you develop focus strength with Scripture. It is completely optional.

This timer runs independently of the audio player, so you can use it at the same time as your listening session.

Set the options of the Focus Timer, then press PLAY. And also press PLAY of the main audio player.

What happens, is while the main player is reading scripture you will get a prompt.

Why is that important? Because it will help you to train your mind to focus and instill the words of God into your mind. You have to learn scripture in your head before it becomes a part of your heart.

Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night.”

Step 1 – Prepare Your Environment

To get the most out of your session:

  1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Sit comfortably.
  3. Relax your body and breathing.
  4. Start the Focus Timer, then start the Bible reading at the same time.

This can be done individually or as a group, but the key is maintaining a quiet environment for the duration of the session.

Your goal is to simply stay present with the words of Scripture.

When Your Mind Wanders

It is normal for the mind to wander. The Focus Timer provides two tools to help bring your attention back to the Word.

1. Main Timer Prompt

The Main Timer can be set to give a single prompt.

When the prompt sounds, you can:

  • Pause for a moment
  • Take a short break
  • Refocus your attention
  • Continue listening

This helps divide a longer session into smaller manageable segments.

Intense focus is more difficult that it may sound on the surface.

2. Reminder Knock

The Reminder Knock is a gentle sound cue to periodically remind you to return your attention to the Scripture if your mind has drifted.

NEVER, let yourself ignore the Knock, because you could train yourself to ignore the Knock, and you will begin to miss the prompt accidently.

They act as a subtle signal to refocus, you can set it to Knock every 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 minute intervals. If you set it to knock every 2 minutes, and you notice every time it knock your ARE focused on scripture. Then its time to set the prompt further apart, try the 3 or 4 minute interval.

Developing Mental Focus

Like any discipline, focus improves with practice.

Over time your brain strengthens its ability to stay attentive. Many people notice significant improvement after several weeks of consistent practice.

With regular sessions, you may find it easier to stay focused for the full half-hour.

The benefits include:

  • deeper engagement with Scripture
  • improved concentration
  • more meaningful relationship with the Word of God

Psalm 1:2
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
